La noticia ilusiona: Ecuador estaría hoy en el bombo 2 si el sorteo del Mundial se realizara ya. Un avance silencioso pero clave, fruto del empate ante Estados Unidos y, curiosamente, de la derrota de Austria frente a Islas Feroe. Ese resultado movió el tablero del ranking FIFA, restándole 16 puntos a los europeos y catapultando a la Tri al puesto 23 del mundo.
¿Qué significa esto? Que en el sorteo, Ecuador evitaría enfrentarse a selecciones de peso medio y solo tendría por encima al cabeza de serie del grupo. En otras palabras: el camino a octavos podría ser más favorable. Pero, ojo, “más fácil” no significa “fácil”.
Moisés no podrá jugar el primer partido del Mundial, lo que reabre el debate sobre la suerte en el sorteo.
¿Será mejor enfrentar al rival más fuerte de entrada o esperar? Algunos creen que lo ideal sería abrir el Mundial ante el contrincante más accesible, solventar la ausencia del mediocampista del Chelsea y crecer en el torneo. Otros, que la Tri está lista para cualquier desafío.
